April Club Night

Even though it was April Fool Day our meeting was after 17:00hrs and the tricks and tripping up periods had passed so no Tom Foolery took place and no broken bones. It actually took place in the kissing peri0d. but being predominately men it was a foregone conclusion that it wasn’t an item on the agenda.

There was some sad news when members were informed about the passing of, Jane Webster, who organised for many years shows at Kelsall, Daresbury, Astle Park and other venues. A condolence card was circulated and signed before sending it to her husband, Fred. Jane’s funeral took place on the 12th April at Vale Royal Crematorium. which was attended by several members. We were  informed that her son will be dealing  with the Entry forms for Kelsall.  She will be sadly missed.

Now on a lighter note what was clearly evident on the night was the number of members in attendance, for the third month running, we nearly ran out of chairs!  Could this be we are doing something right? I can only think we are.

Talking about members attendance we have 4 YES FOUR  new members to whom we give a very big welcome to.

Big big welcome from all club  members

to Anthony Tatton, Alan Mcbeath, Mike Goddard and Paul  M Doidge

Now down to the business part

Members were also told that the club no longer receives commission payment  from Footman James Insurance, who inform that members continue to receive a preferential  rate on declaration that they are members of Congleton  Beartown Classic & Vintage Car Club. The Club continues not to make any recommendation or endorsement of any insurance product/service.

Members were informed of changes to the events calendar, which are:

The Potteries Omnibus Preservation Society (POPS) will take place at Apedale Valley Railway & Mine Museum at Chesterton NOT the Britannia Stadium

DATES CONFIRMED

June 16 – Peaks & Dales Charity Run, Marple to Buxton

Members were reminded that the May Club Night will take place on TUESDAy 7th May in view of the bank holiday.

Now business is done time to talk about the fun bits of the evening and reports of events passed.

An auction took place for a 21 piece China Tea Service kindly  by Stuart Beech and a pair of Tables, kindly donated by Tony Pomelli auctioned by Rob Worthington and raised £22 for club funds.

The ever popular raffle raised £63.

Members News

The specially commissioned  badge and key fob, to mark our upcoming 20th anniversary, are on order and should be available to members at our June Club Night.

Club events Report

Thanks to Eddie Howell and George Timbey, we were able to enjoy the first of our road runs for this year. After what seemed a slow start some 16 vehicles set off. Well almost, as one temperamental Scimitar decided to throw a wobbly and suffer from fuel starvation even though there was plenty in the tank so as to speak. Driver and passengers were despatched to ride in other vehicles and enjoyed a leisurely meander through Cheshire countryside in absolutely glorious spring weather. As predicted! Terry & Ted being the first off were unaware of this incident until the half way point, when everybody else arrived and were able to racont the story. On setting off again Terry’s beloved Beryl was heard to give out an almighty bang and crack as she turned left onto the main road. ‘That was one helluva pothole’ exclaimed Ted, but Terry proferred ‘I know the potholes are bad in Cheshire East but that was no b….. pothole, Ted’ Beryl was limped home and an S Type Jag appeared where there should have been a Rover 2000. Beryl is now awaiting a differential refurb! Despite the small trials and tribulations it was a very enjoyable event and the weather couldn’t have been better.

Evening Show. 17th. May,2019.

The first of our evening shows will take place on May 17, 2019 at the Bull’s Head. Arrival time from 18h00 on.

Please ignore that this was listed as 16th May in the April Newsletter along with a rod run. The road run has been postponed.

Other Events.

Endon Well Dressing. Monday 27th. May,2019. Harold is looking forward to seeing some new faces, on what will be a gloriously sunny day (he says so, but recent history would indicate otherwise). Congregate on the rear car park of The Plough (on the main A53 road between Stoke and Leek) from 13h00 onwards and if you could have your car description ready for him, it would be a big help for him. Big letters please in case he forgets his glasses again!!
